Baliangao Protected Landscape and Seascape (BPLS) is a 315.50-hectare
protected coastal and marine
sanctuary nestled within Danao Bay in Misamis Occidental. It boasts rich
biodiversity with at least 21
species of mangroves, primarily of the Rhizophora (bakawan) variety. The area serves as a vital habitat and nesting site for various waterbirds, including the olive-backed sunbird, Philippine glossy starling, kingfisher, and brahminy kite. Its coastline is bordered by 10.3-hectares coral reefs that shield the mangrove forests from strong waves, while its seascape features beds of seagrasses and seaweeds, sustaining marine life and enhancing coastal resilience. It also features a 460-meter boardwalk in the
heart of the mangrove forest from the coast to the heart of BPLS.
